Case of the People v. Gregory Haidl

The Radio and Television News Association (RTNA) applauds the decision by the Orange County Superior Court Judge Francisco Briseno to permit broadcast journalists to record and air the audio feed from the sentencing hearing in the case of People v. Gregory Haidl, et al.

Whereas allowing a video feed as well would have been even more beneficial to the interests of the public and broadcast journalists, RTNA recognizes that considerations involving privacy and the sensitive nature of the case exist. RTNA hopes this decision by Judge Briseno is part of a movement toward more openness in connection with permitting the public to see and hear court cases of substantial public interest.
